For years, various Apple devices have been utilized by health institutions to improve patients’ wellness, enhance research, and facilitate their daily operations. Lately though in New Delhi’s Pristyn Care, surgeons from Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics made history with the initial ever live bariatric surgery done through an Apple Vision Pro. The operation was a sleeve gastric bypass and a Single Anastomosis Duodenal-leal (SADI) procedure.
The surgery was performed on a 45-year-old male patient who weighed 155 kg by Dr Mohit Bhandari, who suffered from sleep apnea as well as hypertension. It was a breakthrough in medicine lasting only 40 minutes of surgery time.
However, NDTV reported that Vision Pro allowed Dr Bhandari and his team to build an intricate 3D environment where they could see complex details.
Apple Vision Pro used for bariatric surgery
According to Dr Vaibhav Kapoor co-founder of Pristyn Care said,” We strive to be at the forefront of medical innovation so that we can give our patients the best possible care.”
The technical integration of Apple Vision Pro into bariatric surgery is an important milestone in our efforts toward revolutionizing surgical techniques. This milestone in technology advances has put us ahead as it will result in more accurate surgeries which are likely to yield better results than before.
There is another aspect of medical care where these AR headsets have made a good impact. For example, in Chennai’s GEM Hospital this year alone laparoscopic surgeries on gall bladder operations and hernias to fistulas and stomach cancer surgeries were conducted using the mixed reality headsets.

One of the simple examples is that tech gadgets have made it easier for surgeons to execute a surgical procedure: thus, Dr R Parthasarathy who serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at GEM Hospitals was quoted saying.
Dr. Parthasarathy also informed The Hindu that there are no transmission delays in Apple devices, which enabled his team to monitor everything in real time. He went further ahead to say that it provided a clear view like those seen through a laparoscopic surgery monitor.
FaceTime calls could be made by the doctor using this device to other surgeons from different cities so that they can watch live surgery results or scans and give their opinions.
