Delhi Water Crises Supreme Court ask Himachal to release the excess water to Delhi.
Thursday, June 13, was the date when the Supreme Court of India declared that sharing Yamuna water among states is a very complex and sensitive issue.
In addition to this, the court directed the Delhi government to approach the Upper Yamuna River Board (UYRB) for water supply implying that the court does not have expertise in matters relating to such issues.
This follows Himachal Pradesh’s disclosure before that it has no surplus of 136 cusecs of water. UYRB (Yamuna Board) should hold a meeting with all parties tomorrow Friday, June 13 and expeditiously decide on the matter according to the vacation bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale.
The AAP government in Delhi was called upon by the apex court to apply UYRB. The Supreme Court order stated that by today at 5:00 pm, an application should be made to the Yamuna water authority seeking a supply of water to the national capital on humanitarian grounds.
“The issue of sharing Yamuna water between states is a complex and sensitive issue, and this court does not have expertise,” noted the Supreme Court.
