According to the official note, the movie is set in pre-independent India. It is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, sparked by “allegations of misconduct by a prominent figure.”
Junaid Khan will be seen as Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer. He was a trailblazer for women’s rights and social reform.
A student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and part of Dadabhai Naoroji’s intellectual following, Mulji wrote on widow remarriage, spoke up for the oppressed, and planted seeds of change.
No teasers or trailers have been released for this film; tomorrow it will start streaming directly on Netflix. It has been directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment.
