Kirit Somaiya, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Mumbai, alleged yesterday that Bhavesh Bhinde, a managing director of an advertising agency, had received 4.6 million (Rs) from a company owned by the then GRP Commissioner’s wife as a bribe for permitting the erection of billboards that collapsed on this spot last month.
The former MP from BJP has written to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding action against the then Government Railway Police Commissioner Quaiser Khalid for “Ghatkopar Hoardings Scam BRIBE”.
Somaiya further said in his posts through X account that Ego Media Pvt Ltd, where he was the director, bribed railway police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with Rs 50 million “for two dozen illegal hoardings” located at Ghatkopar and Dadar in Mumbai.

About Ghatkopar Hoarding Crash
17 people were killed while over 70 others were injured when a huge billboard fell in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai during gusting winds and untimely rains on May 13th, according to police sources.
“M/s Ego Media Pvt Ltd is being offered permission to erect hoarding at this location near petrol pump situated between Bhandup Police Station and Bhandup Railway Station,” said a top official on condition of anonymity adding that “the land belonged to GRP earlier but then it got transferred to us after which we are given rights for ten years.”

SIT Probe Underway In The Incident
The formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the hoarding collapse was announced.

He said Mahapara Garments Pvt Ltd was incorporated/formed on June 20, 2022, by his wife Summana Quaiser Khalid, and Mohd Arshad K Khan.
“Bhavesh Bhinde of EGO Media Pvt Ltd transferred? 46 lacs to this company during the year 2020/21,” Somaiya revealed.
He informed that till now five persons have been arrested in connection with the Ghatkopar hoarding tragedy.
