Pawan Kalyan career in Politics
Kalyan established his party, JSP in 2014 but it did not contest the general elections that year; instead, he supported the TDP-BJP alliance that won power.
JSP contested its first assembly and Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh independently in 2019. The party faced an embarrassing defeat with Kalyan himself losing both Assembly seats he had contested for Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam and Bhimavaram in West Godavari.
The party could only manage one seat Razole assembly constituency (SC-reserved) but later the MLA defected to the YSR Congress Party.
In the last half of 2022, Kalyan began a series of small public meetings called ‘Jana Vani’ to listen to people’s problems. According to Businessline as cited by him, “he was the sole politician who worked for fighting for public issues” despite losing the 2019 elections.
It led to TDP chief Naidu and Pawan Kalyan coming together again when JSP cadres were arrested at such a meeting at Visakhapatnam by the YSRCP government.
Also, he consistently attempted connecting with BJP leaders including Amit Shah and JP Nadda, although they showed no warmth towards him.
Finally, Kalyan succeeded in forming an alliance among TDP, JSP, and BJP which announced a pre-poll alliance in March.
