Brothers from Pune turned out to be the victims of an advanced con that saw them lose a colossal sum amounting to INR 2.45 crores in a recent online fraud case.

A software engineer at Yerawada, who is 53 years old and lives at Charholi Budruk in Pune was asleep and living his life normally until one day when he woke up to find himself in a WhatsApp group talking about big profits being made from online stock trading.

After succumbing to its enticement of quick riches he was quickly persuaded into creating a share trading account and initiating investments based on these suggestions.
The perpetrators didn’t end at that. The same WhatsApp group also added his brother who also happens to be a software engineer. Once they started, things seemed so easy as they were making good money through this particular trading platform they had been advised to trade with initially.
How Online Trading Scam Worked on WhatsApp
The cheaters manipulated the screens of the victims’ viewpoints of their alleged profits with screen software, said Senior Inspector Vijay Dhamal, Dighi police. “It’s only a screen software and it could be played on by online suspects,” explained Dhamal. The software showed impressive gains, which made the brothers invest more.
To begin with, the elder brother invested Rs 1.68 crore into what he thought was high-value shares. They kept transferring huge amounts of money to various bank accounts provided by the fraudsters as they were encouraged by apparent success. In total, the elder brother transferred Rs 1.67 crore while his brother transferred Rs 77.50 lakh.
