A group of 22 Uttarakhand Trekkers missing en route to Sahastra Tal and got trapped due to bad weather, Four of them Died, and and remaining others were sent to a Safe spot to rescue the Remaining.
The team of 22 trekkers, consisting of 18 people from Karnataka, one from Maharashtra, and three local guides is feared dead after it lost its way in the course of their trek to Sahastra Tal in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand due to bad weather resulting in being stranded along a chosen route.
According to the Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht, a group of 18 people from Karnataka and one person each from Maharashtra as well as three local guides had started their trekking on May 29th towards Sahastra Tal with a plan to return by June 7th.
However, bad climatic conditions made the team lose its direction and they alerted authorities about four deaths. The Himalayan View Tracking Agency in Maneri also claimed that thirteen members were stuck there begging for rescue.
After Singh Bisht asked SDRF through wireless message for immediate intervention by rescue teams, he also ordered for deployment of rescue teams at the grassroots level in such sites.
He added that this incident site was situated close to an altitude ranging between 4,100-4,400 m above sea level whereas the actual location galvanizing these two districts’ borders is at Sahastra Tal.

“We are sending rescue teams both towards Ghansali Tehri and Uttar Kashi sides,” he quickly added when requesting assistance in saving the lives of these tourists.
Sahastra Tal is a chain of seven lakes perched on top of a mountain believed to be Descartes-Pandavas’ last destination before making their ascent to heaven.
To save the trekkers trapped at Sahastra Tal, the District Magistrate therefore wrote to the Joint Secretary of the Central Defence Department for air rescue and also to the SDRF commandant for ground rescue assistance.
The trekking agency had also ordered that people from Silla village be dispatched to assist rescue teams. It was requested, as well, that teams of police and forest department be sent from Tehri district to the spot.
The Tehri district administration deployed its teams to rescue the trekkers who were stuck in Sahastra Tal.
