Officials confirmed that twenty-seven people, including some children, died in the huge fire that broke out at a game center in Rajkot, Gujarat on Saturday evening. A rescue and relief operation is ongoing.
“The bodies are completely burnt beyond recognition,” Vinayak Patel an Assistant Commissioner of Police said. The gaming zone owners have been placed under arrest.
“This is a very sorry incident that happened today. This is something that has never happened in the history of Rajkot – where a gaming zone fire kills people including young ones. We want to rescue as many people as possible.
The government will take action against those whose negligence resulted in this tragedy,” said Darshita Shah, MLA from Rajkot West. Four lakhs rupees compensation will be given to the victims’ families.

“Feeling extremely anguished by the incident of fire in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Local administration is providing all possible assistance to affected,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I am deeply pained by the deaths caused by a fire accident at a game center in Rajkot, Gujarat. My prayers go out to the families who have lost their loved ones including young kids. May God help the rescued victims get well soon,”
Bhupendra Patel, the Governor of Gujarat, has instructed officials to prioritize immediate treatment for those injured. He will visit the site early in the morning tomorrow.

“Immediate rescue and relief operations have been directed at by Municipal Corporation and administration after a fire incident in Rajkot’s game zone,” Patel told Newsmen.
“The gaming zone belongs to a Yuvraj Singh Solanki,” replied Raju Bhargava, who is commissioner of Rajkot Police.
“I cannot say why that fire occurred here. This is under investigation. We shall talk to the fire brigade about what action should be taken,” said he.
Earlier, a fire officer told ANI: “The reason for the fire is still unknown; attempts are being made to put it out; no information about missing people yet; difficulties with extinguishing take place because of fallen temporary construction due to wind speed”.
“Then only we would know how many people died inside the zone (after the fire gets controlled). Also, we will find out what caused the incident, and all gaming zones across the city are advised to immediately shut down.”
