Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, who was an influential person in India’s media and film industry as well as the founder of Ramoji Film City died at 87 in Hyderabad early on Saturday.
He was well known for his ability to do business and contribute to large media corporations.
Ramoji Rao was born on November 16, 1936, into an agrarian family at Pedaparupudi in Andhra Pradesh where he had a deep association with agriculture.
He studied literature and thereafter became a successful trader-businessman and media baron. He married Ramadevi and they had two sons namely Suman Prabhakar and Kiran Prabhakar.

The group has heads such companies as Eenadu, ETV Network, Usha Kiran Movies, and the largest film production facility globally called Ramoji Film City situated near Hyderabad.
His range of other enterprises included Dolphin Group of hotels, Margadarsi Chit Fund, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya Pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors.
Ramoji Rao received numerous awards including Padma Vibhushan (2016) for Telugu cinema and media contribution; National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu for ‘Nuvve Kavali’ (2000), four Filmfare Awards South and five Nandi Awards.

Colon cancer was fought and survived by Ramoji Rao in the past few years.
On June 5, the 87-year-old complained of high blood pressure and breathlessness, hence he had to be rushed to Star Hospitals in Nanakramguda Hyderabad.
Ramoji Rao developed complications that caused his death on Saturday at 4:50 am despite timely medical interventions such as stenting and ICU care.
